The ABC-MODEL
Accelerated Behavioural Change Model
The Accelerated Behavioural Change (ABC) Model has been specifically designed for online coaching. The goal is to accelerate behavioral interventions. The coaching process based on the ABC model consists of three phases:
Analyze-phase:
The first phase (Analyze) starts with understanding the current situation. The analysis of the current situation and the desired future situation are the focus of this phase. The specific coach objective is set and individual SMART development goals are defined.

Internalize-phase:
During this phase the client works on practicing (action focused) and implementing new behaviours in a real-life setting. The coach provides continuous and intensive guidance. The client makes small steps and therefore experiences more moments of triumph along the way, which contributes to the development and internalization of new behaviour. This phase emphasizes an effective double reinforcement circle representing the positive reinforcement provided by the coach and the client's environment.
Sustain-phase:
This last phase aims to sustain what is learned and developed to ensure a permanent fixture in the client's behaviours. This phase consists of three steps: Validation (evaluating whether the main objectives have been achieved), Maintenance (creating plans that help sustain the new behaviour and who and what is needed in support of that) and Enact (perpetuating the new knowledge and behaviour without the coach's assistance).
